Steve Rhodes, former Bangladesh national team coach who joined Comilla Victorians as Technical Advisor said that he is not interested to talk about anything regarding his past role.
While talking to the reporters, Rhodes said that he does not want to go through that part of his life, “I don’t really want to get dragged into any conversation about the BCB. I think that’s history. If you look back at the World Cup, barring Pakistan, we played pretty well in all of the games. Even in defeat against England or India, we put up a good shout”, he said on Tuesday.
“It wasn’t an annihilation of Bangladesh. Mixed in between, we had some good wins. We pushed NZ in the World Cup. I don’t think it is as bad as people think. Departure from any post or any job, people have opinions”, he added.
Rhodes also did not want to make any comment on the current coaching panel of the Bangladesh national team, “I don’t know it well enough to comment. I only read your reports. You probably know more than me. From what I read; I know the coaching staff is hard working. Some of the results haven’t gone their way previously, but there have also been some brilliant results”, said the former England cricketer.
Rhodes is also very delighted to see his former pupils beating New Zealand on their own turf, “But to win against NZ in the Test match was a tremendous effort. The guys stood up and did well. It was probably too much to manage the second game. They came back strong. The T20s win in Bangladesh were fantastic”, he said.
Rhodes was very optimistic about Liton Das and he is happy to see him doing well in Test cricket out of home, “I always felt Liton Das was a special player. I think he is an even better player now. The day that I thought this guy was a good player was in the Asia Cup final (in 2018), when he scored a hundred. It was an amazing innings against a very tough team in trying conditions. He has become a bit more consistent with his form. He is getting better. He hasn’t stopped. He can get higher”, he added.
