The upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League football, scheduled to start on February 3, will be played in four venues across the country, the Bangladesh Football Federation informed.
The Professional League Committee of BFF took this decision on Saturday after an emergency meeting. On Sunday, the logo for the upcoming season was unveiled during a BFF program in a city hotel in Dhaka, where the captains from 12 teams were present.
The final four venues of the tournament are- Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka, Shaheed Ahsanullah Stadium in Tongi, Gazipur, Shaheed Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Rahman Stadium, and the Army Stadium in Dhaka.
BFF senior vice-president Salam Murshedi hoped for a competitive tournament this time around.
“I think the clubs have recruited quality foreign players. The local players can play with them and improve themselves. I believe there will be a tough battle for the Championship,” he said.
In the last two completed seasons, Bashundhara Kings walked to the BPL title. They will have the chance to play on their home ground this time, but their title defence is likely to face more trouble.
Dhaka Abahani Ltd beat them in the final of the Independence Cup, and later won the Federation Cup, and they will surely fight to be Champions.
Kings skipper Robson Robinho though is eyeing the league despite missing out on the Independence Cup.
“We have missed out on a trophy, but that’s football. We will try our best to win the league,” he said during the captain’s meet on Sunday.
Abahani skipper Nabib Newaj Jibon expressed his hopes of winning the title.
“We have prepared well for the league. It will not be easy, but we will fight for the title and hopefully, we will win it,” the striker said.
