Comilla make it three out of three

Comilla Victorians maintained their perfect record in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2022 as they walked past Chattogram Challengers with a 52-run victory in Chattogram on Monday to make it three wins out of three.

Batting first, courtesy of a brilliant Faf Du Plessis knock and a late cameo from Cameron Delport, Comilla ended on 183-3. In reply, Chattogram’s Will Jacks fought a lone battle but ultimately, they crumbled for 131.

Liton Das, who was playing his first match of the edition, lost his opening partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy (1) early. But on came Du Plessis, and the duo put together 80 runs before Liton was dismissed on 47.

But the South African continued, and with some late hitting from compatriot Delport, they took Comilla to 183-3. Du Plessis stayed unbeaten on 83 off 55 deliveries, with Delport scoring a blistering 51 off just 23 deliveries. In the last five overs, the duo added 76 runs, taking the game away from Chattogram.

In reply, Chattogram were never in the fight as they kept losing wickets at one end. Kennar Lewis (4), Afif Hossain (4), and Sabbir Rahman (5) were all gone by the powerplay, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (10) followed in the seventh over.

Jacks tried to counter the Comilla attack from the other end and went on to pick up his second fifty on the trot, but it resulted in nothing as he had no support. Before getting bowled off Tanvir Islam, the English batsman scored 69 off 42 deliveries, hitting seven fours and three sixes.

After Jacks’ dismissal, Comilla wrapped things up quickly to get their third win in a row. Nahidul Islam picked up three wickets for Comilla, with Mustafizur Rahman, Tanvir, and Shohidul Islam picking up two each. – TBP
