Mahmudullah played a magnificent knock of 70* runs which helped Minister Dhaka to register an important win against table topper Comilla Victorians by 50 runs.
The right-handed batsman has been playing in the Bangladesh Premier League since it’s first edition but despite playing in every single season, the statistics does not speak on his favor.
Though he has played handsome amount of T20 matches for Bangladesh and also in various franchise tournaments including BPL, he hardly gets a chance to play a long innings because of his batting position.
But on Tuesday, against Comilla Victorians Mahmudullah played his career best innings of unbeaten 70 runs from just 41 balls.
Mahmudullah hit three fours and four sixes, but the impact of his innings goes beyond the numbers because the two sixes in the last over helped Dhaka to reach a healthy total of 181-6 in 20 overs.
In his 272 match T20 career, Mahmudullah’s previous best innings was also 70* which he played for Gemcon Khulna against Gazi Group Chattogram in the final of Bangabandhu T20 Cup.
This is his first half-century in this edition of BPL, he came close in few occasions and missed out for only three runs against Fortune Barishal.
Mahmudullah’s total run in BPL moved up to 5045, he became only third Bangladesh batsman after Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal to cross the 5000 runs land mark.
A half-century from Mahmudullah and 46 runs from Tamim Iqbal helped Dhaka to post a total of 181-6 in 20 overs.
In reply, Comilla were all-out for 131 runs in 17.3 overs, despite a 46-run innings from Mahmudul Hasan Joy.
Two batting keystones of Comilla, Liton Das and Faf Du Plessis both were out cheaply and Cameron Delport also could not salvage the team this time.
Dhaka also managed stay in the title race as they lost three matches out of their first four but at Chattogram they have managed to win both the matches.
Despite touching a couple of personal landmarks, Mahmudullah upholds the team performance,
“Happy for the team. It was a much-needed win. Tamim set us up for the big total we had. It’s a nice wicket to play on and hopefully the hunger continues”, he said after the match.
