Khulna Tigers cruised to an easy nine-wicket win over Sylhet Sunrisers in the Bangladesh Premier League match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday.
Batting first, Sylhet managed 142-5, courtesy of an excellent 72-run knock from Mohammad Mithun. In reply, Khulna had it done easily as opener Andre Fletcher stayed unbeaten on 71 to take them home with 34 balls in hand.
Sylhet were put in to bat first by Khulna skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, and they had a very slow start as both their openers, Lendl Simmons and Anamul Haque, struggled. After the first half of their innings, Sylhet had lost three wickets to score only 42. But from there on, a charge from Mithun ensured that they had a fighting total of 142-5 on board. Mithun scored 72 off 51 deliveries, hitting six fours and four sixes.
In reply, Khulna had little to no trouble as Fletcher and Soumya Sarkar brought them a flying start. The pair scored 65 in the powerplay and extended their partnership to 99 before Soumya was out on 43. But in came Thisara Perera and blasted 22 off just nine deliveries to take Khulna home with more than five overs remaining. Fletcher stayed unbeaten on 71 off 47, hitting five fours and five sixes. – TBP
