Chattogram Challengers will face Comilla Victorians for the last remaining spot of the final of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Fortune Barishal was the first team to claim a spot in the final as they defeated Comilla Victorians by 10 runs in the first qualifier.
On the other hand, Chattaogram Challengers clinched a thriller against Khulna Titans which earned them a spot in the second qualifier.
Chattogram were struggling to find a place at the playoffs at one point but a win against Sylhet Sunrisers took them to the playoffs as Minister Dhaka failed to win against Fortune Barishal in their last match.
Chattogram are highly spirited at this point as they have won two crunch matches while Comilla confirmed their spot in the playoffs comfortably but back-to-back losses made them puzzled.
Comilla lost their last group stage match against Khulna Tigers and also lost the first qualifier against Fortune Barishal.
Chattogram and Comilla will battle it out today for the only remaining spot in the BPL final, scheduled to take place on February 18.
Mrittunjoy Chowdhury is enjoying a good season with the ball as he has claimed 14 wickets in seven matches so far in this edition of BPL and he is eyeing the grand prize,
“I want to help the team in any way I can. My personal goal is to take as many wickets as possible and to bowl more dots. This tournament so far is going well for me and I want to become the highest wicket-taker in the tournament and I am very close with 14 wickets in 7 games “, he told in a video message on Tuesday.
Chattogram have gone through ups and downs throughout the tournament, hit by a captaincy controversy but despite all odds, they are still in the race to the title.
Mrittunjoy thinks that their inexperience caused the turbulence,
“We are a young team and that inexperience probably played a role in our performances in some of the games. We started very well and went to the top of the league at one stage. We made some mistakes and a few other issues contributed to our losses but we were determined to quickly learn from our mistakes and came back strongly to win 3 straight games”, said the left-arm pacer.
The young pacer is hopeful about winning the match against Comilla and making an appointment with Barishal on Friday,
“We are performing well as a team with everyone giving their 100 percent on the field and our primary target is to win the second qualifier so that we can ensure our place in the final”, added Mrittunjoy.
Comilla was cruising in the group stage but they suffered two straight losses in their last two matches which kept them reeling ahead of the final.
Coach of Comilla Victorians Salahuddin told the media after the match that the players must change their approach in the last 10 overs,
“Our performance with the bat was very disappointing but we will look to overcome this problem in the next match. We need to think about our approach with the bat in the last 10 overs as we had all ten wickets in hand to chase down those runs”, he said after the loss against Fortune Barishal.
Both the teams skipped practice on Tuesday as the second qualifier will start at 5-30 PM in the evening.
