Basundhara Kings are ready to host their first home match at the newly built home venue Kings’ Arena where they will be playing against Bangladesh Police Football Club at Basundhara Sports Complex on Thursday.
The lavishly built ground was ready to host the first home match of the Basundhara Kings which was against Swadhinota Krira Sangha on February 3 but the Bangladesh Football federation relocated the venue at the very last moment.
Kings’ authority wanted to take the matter to the court of Arbitration for Sport but eventually, BFF allowed them the right to host home matches at the home venue.
The newly built Basundhara Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art venue where 14000 spectators can enjoy the match.
The venue is also one of the most ambitious and expensive sports projects as the total expenditure went above Taka 1500 crore.
The U-shaped stadium has a separate entry for home and away teams and soon a merchandise shop will start operating at the premise.
The project started at the end of 2018 and the Spanish coach of Basundhara Kings Oscar Bruzon is amazed to see the transformation of empty lands into an iconic sports venue,
“It’s a dream come true for us; all the members involved were working very hard to make it happen. Here you can play positive football, football of combination, modern. I think it’s a big milestone for Bangladesh football. We have to capitalize on the opportunity to attract people to come and see positive football. And finally, I want to win more games here because it matters most”, told the Spaniard.
Bruzon expects that in a short period of time, the Kings’ Arena will be the fortress of Basundhara Kings,
“I hope soon we can tell that this is our fortress. A place where we are strong, a stadium which will be recognized as a home venue for the home games of the team which is difficult for any rival to come and buy one point. We build that identity with our stadium, our fans, our clubs”, said the Basundhara Kings coach.
“The football pitch is excellent, the condition of the pitch will surely make a difference in Bangladesh”, he added.
