Bangladesh Premier League football side Bashundhara Kings will launch their home venue, the Bashundhara Kings Arena today, against Bangladesh Police FC today, and they are looking forward to turning the stadium into a continental football hub.
Before their first official match on their home ground, Kings hosted an orientation program for their stadium on Wednesday, where Kings President Imrul Hassan, Kings General Secretary Biddut Kumar Bhowmik, Kings Office Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, and Project-in-charge of the Bashundhara Sports Complex Engineer Mohammad Amanullah were present.
During the orientation, Kings President Imrul described the details of their home ground and believed that after completion of the stadium, it can be a venue for international matches.
“Once completed, our stadium will be able to accommodate 14,000 fans. Once we install the floodlights, we will be capable of holding international matches. Even hosting World Cup matches will be possible. We can also hold AFC Champions Cup matches. This is the first stadium in South Asia for a team to use as their home ground. It can be a continental hub,” Imrul said on Wednesday.
Before the start of this year’s BPL, the Kings Arena, which is still under construction, was set to be one of the venues. But a disagreement between the Bangladesh Football Federation and the Kings hierarchy meant that the venue was discarded. But after three rounds, an agreement was reached, and now the Kings Arena can finally debut.
The Kings President, also the vice-president of BFF, said that BFF has fixed their mistake.
“All the teams in the world have a home ground. This is the primary condition for the league. BFF had done a mistake when they did not allow it, but now they have fixed their mistake,” he said.
Imrul added, “Our stadium can be an example for the other legendary teams to make their home grounds.”
Kings also explained their plan for the Bashundhara Sports Complex, which will have cricket stadiums, a dedicated stadium and a training ground for the Bashundhara Kings Women’s Team, hockey fields, and other sporting facilities on a 300 bigha area. The estimated cost of the sports complex will be 15 thousand crore takas. The estimated date for the completion of the sports complex is set at June 2024.
Imrul added that they will also be launching a cricket team under the same name soon.
“We are planning on launching a cricket team soon. It will be named Bashundhara Kings too,” he said.
