The first camp of the Bangladesh Tigers program will be aiming at the upcoming away series in South Africa in March, BCB Director and the program’s Chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed said on Saturday.

Bangladesh Tigers is a shadow team of the National side, which will facilitate players out of form and format-based players, and will be looking to strengthen the pipeline of the national team by accommodating promising prospects.

The first camp of this program will be held at the Shahid Chandu Stadium in Bogura from 25th February to 7th March. BCB announced a 23-man squad for the camp on Saturday, including players like Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, and Mohammad Mithun, who were left out of the National team’s one-day international series against Afghanistan.

The Chairman of the program explained that this camp was being held in Bogura because the national Test team skipper Mominul Haque asked for this venue because of its fast and true nature, which could help them prepare for South Africa.

“Why Bogura. Because Mominul asked for it. He told Sujon bhai (Khaled Mahmud) that the wickets in Bogura were very fast. Also, we are being able to use a former international venue. Hopefully, the program will go well,” Inam said in a press conference on Monday.

Inam stated that the main goal of this program was to keep players and coaches fit and ready for the national side.

“We are focusing on players who are not playing in a particular format. For example, the Test players have a long gap now because we will be playing ODIs and T20Is in the upcoming series against Afghanistan. They will be able to make the best use of the facilities under specialist supervision in preparation for the South Africa series,” he said.

Inam added, “The program will also look after players who are out of the national side due to lack of form or are coming back from injury. Players who perform well in the domestic tournaments and are in contention for the national team can also make it to this program.”

Mizanur Rahman Babul will lead the program as head coach in a coaching panel consisting of 9 members, including the likes of Champaka Ramanayeke, Aftab Ahmed, Talha Jubair, Sohel Islam, and Nazmul Hossain.
