Mohammad Naim, Bangladesh’s T20I opener, was batting in the nets of the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Sunday while the head coach Russell Domingo was observing him.
A few journalists were following Naim’s batting from behind, and a delivery from ball-thrower Nasir beat Naim, then the ball went through the steel fencing around the field and hit a journalist in the arm.
Seeing this, head coach Domingo loudly told Nasir, ‘Kill the media!’. A journalist then asked him to not kill them, and Domingo replied that he was just joking.
Domingo might have said that jokingly, but the relationship between the Bangladesh media and the South African is not a very warm one. His position has often been scrutinised, and Domingo told a couple of days earlier that he did not care about what the media wrote about him.
“Whatever the media or public say, for me, I don’t wanna sound rude, but it is not that important. You can write what you want about me and the players, it is important that I keep that noise away from the players,” he had said.
