Liverpool win League Cup

Liverpool won 11-10 on penalties against Chelsea in the thrilling final of the Carabao Cup 2022 at Wembley Stadium in England.

Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga,who was brought on late in extra time as a specialist penalty stopper,missed his own spot-kick after twenty successful penalties from both team in the shootout.

Chelsea had three goals disallowed for offside and Joel Matip’s breakthrough for Liverpool was overturned by the Video Assistant Referee(VAR) for offside and a foul on defender Reece James by Virgil van Djik.

Chelsea’s Mason Mount missed two big chances to score in each half and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy produced several stunning saves to keep the scores level at 0-0.

Liverpool’s front three,particularly Luiz Diaz,created a host of chances in a free-flowing game that went to extra time and eventually ended in a shootout. – AFP Photo
