Bangladesh cricketer Saifuddin is facing a hearing at the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday for making inappropriate comments to the media regarding the board.
Chairman of cricket operations at the BCB, Jalal Yunus, said that the cricketer was summoned to the BCB offices to explain his comments and that strict measures will be taken against him.
“We summoned him. We were surprised to see his comments in the media. He said that for five to six months, none from the board or team management contacted him, which is absolutely wrong. He was put on a rehabilitation program, and he has only one job to do, rehab. He was saying self-contradictory things, and when asked, he was apologetic and admitted that he made a wrong accusation,” Jalal told the reporters at SBNCS.
Earlier, Saifuddin had told the reporters, “Currently, I am not in the national team. So, I am not thinking about that. In the last five and a half months, none from the national team management contacted me. What can I say?”
Saifuddin’s comments irked the BCB top brass, said Jalal.
“We, the board directors, and the board president were all very surprised to see such comments. How come he says this? He was sent to the UK for higher treatment. We contacted the England and Wales Cricket Board and took their suggestion for a spine surgeon. The day before he was supposed to go, he came to meet me. The next day I learned that he was found Covid-19 positive. So, he went a few days later, came back, and the scan showed that the injury healed, so it was time for rehab. We are in constant contact with him,” said the BCB director.
“We asked him why he said such things, and now we will decide what type of actions could be taken against him. He said sorry to us, he apologised. He said he spoke those in the heat of the moment. Now, we will think about the measures,” Jalal added.
