Bashundhara Kings extended their lead at the top of the Bnagladesh Premier League football charts by thrashing Chattogram Abahani 5-0 on Friday, while second-placed Dhaka Abahani Ltd dropped a couple of points against Swadhinata KS.
A brace from Brazilian forward Robson and goals from strikers Sumon Reza and Mohammad Ibrahim gave the Kings a comfortable victory.
In the other game, Dhaka Abahani Ltd drew 1-1 against Swadhinata KS. Third-placed Sheikh Jamal also dropped points as they drew 2-2 against Saif Sporting Club.
Results on Friday meant that Kings had a four-point lead at the top, with Abahani sitting second with 17 points, whereas Sheikh Jamal have 16.
It didn’t take long for Kings to take the lead at the Bashundhara Kings Arena as Sumon Reza scored in the 17th minute with a free header after Ctg Abahani goalkeeper, Azad Hossan, misjudged the flight of a cross from the left flank.
Kings skipper Robson got into his groove and scored twice, with Sumon turning provider for both.
For his first goal, Robson nicked the ball from right-back Monir Alam in the 28th minute and played a delicate one-two with Sumon before curling it in off the far post.
The Brazilian forward powered a low-driven shot from 25 yards to score his second in the 43rd minute to give his team a four-goal lead at half-time.
In between, Robson played an intricate pass to pierce the Ctg Abahani defence and Mohammad Ibrahim’s left-footed strike put the Kings 3-0 up.
Kings brought on forward Eleta Kingsley at half-time, who caused Ctg Abahani more trouble by scoring in the 67th minute from a quick corner to make it 5-0.
