Muktijoddha thump Sk Russel 3-0

Muktijoddha SKC thrashed Sheikh Russel KC Ltd 3-0 to get out of the relegation zone in the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday.

Muktijoddha, who were the bottom-placed team before the tie, now have six points from eight matches and moved up two steps to 10th. Sheikh Russel, on the other hand, sit 11th with five points.

Muktijoddha’s Japanese midfielder Soma Otani broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a thunderous left-footed strike from 30 yards. The ball kindly fell to him after a sloppy clearance from Sheikh Russel defender Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, and he produced a driving shot for Muktijoddha to take the lead.

Sheikh Russel pressed after conceding and created chances on a regular basis but failed to hit the net as they went into half-time with a goal down.

It didn’t take long for Muktijoddha to double their lead after the restart as they scored in the 53rd minute.

Forward Misawa was fouled just outside the box by Russel striker Esmaël Gonçalves, and Misawa’s curling strike from the free-kick forced goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana to make a great save with his left hand, but Muktijoddha midfielder Didarul Alam was vigilant as he scored from the rebound.

Rana’s clumsy effort to clear the ball on the half-line put the game to bed as forward Sojib pounced on and nestled it in to put his team 3-0 up in the 81st minute.

In the other fixtures, Mohammedan Sporting Club played out a goalless draw against Uttar Baridhara SC, while Bangladesh Police FC won 2-1 against Rahmatgonj MFS.
