No Prime Doleshwar in DPL 2022

Dhaka Premier League is returning to its usual format of 50 overs as the new season is kicking off from March 15.

But Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, the team which came out third in the last edition have decided not to take part in the DPL.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has released the partial fixture of Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2021-22, where Prime Doleshwar is not included.

Earlier, Doleshwar’s name was not on the list of players’ transfers, and finally, the Cricket Club of Dhaka Metropolis announced on March 12 the name of participating 11 clubs.

This season, the DPL will be an 11-team competition, and unlike previous years, only one team will be relegated to the First Division Cricket League as Doleshwar is the other team.

According to the rules, if a team fails to take part in a league, they will be relegated to the next tier.

Doleshwar informed the CCDM that they will not be taking part in the DPL and the DPL coordinator Amin Khan said he has dispatched the letter to BCB.

“We have sent the letter to BCB. Now, the board will decide,” he told the media.

CCDM member secretary Ali Hossain also told the reporters about the exclusion of Prime Doleshwar.

“We already announced our fixture excluding Prime Doleshwar. Therefore, it is pretty clear that the side is not competing in this edition of DPL. Meanwhile, we have issued a letter to the BCB asking them if Prime Doleshwar can take part in the next season,” he told the reporters on Sunday.

Prime Bank Cricket Club is one of the top contenders for the trophy, but their coach Mohammad Salahuddin is unhappy about releasing some players too early.

“The DPL clubs knew that the Test team players will go, and everyone planned accordingly. But unfortunately, we have to spare two cricketers for the South Africa tour who are not in the squad. They are neither in the ODI team nor in the Test team,” said the PBCC coach.

“We have spared six cricketers already, and on top of that, we have to spare two more. In that case, it will be hard for us to field a team. If they (Mohammad Mithun and Rejaur Rahman Raja) were picked to play, then it was OK, but they will not be playing any match there. They just went there for practice. There were other cricketers from other teams as well but they were not picked, only two from Prime Bank. I don’t find it good,” added Salahuddin.

Mohammad Mithun and Rejaur Rahman Raja are the two cricketers travelling to South Africa, where they will take part in the preparation camp at Gary Kirsten’s academy.

Salahuddin is not satisfied with Mithun’s sudden inclusion.

“I don’t know why Mithun is picked. He was not in the national squad for the last six or seven months. He was picked suddenly. Ultimately, we are missing six cricketers already, and two more are added. I think losing two more cricketers has made big damage,” he told on Sunday.
