Shuvagata outshines Ashraful

Both Shuvagata Hom and Mohammad Ashraful earned a five-wicket-haul in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match at the BKSP, but it was Shuvagata who had the last laugh as his side Mohammedan Sporting Club defeated Brothers Union by 54 runs on Tuesday.

In another match at BKSP, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defended a small total of 146 runs against Shinepukur Cricket Club and won by 14 runs.

Mohammedan vs Brothers

Brother won the toss and decided to field first. Mohammedan struggled against the part-time spin of Ashraful, who claimed five wickets for only 23 runs in his 10 overs.

Mohammedan opener Rony Talukder scored 58 runs, and Mohammad Hafeez finally moved to double figures in the DPL but could not go on beyond 28. He was trapped Leg Before Wicket by Ashraful. 41* from Zahiduzzaman took Mohammedan to 206 in 49.4 overs.

In reply, Brothers had a batting collapse on the top as they lost three wickets before reaching a team total of 10 runs and could not recover. Aminul Islam (36) and Dhiman Ghosh (32) tried, but that was not enough. Skipper Shuvagata took five wickets for just 25 runs in his 8.3 overs to fold Brothers for 152 runs in 43.3 overs.

Mohammedan won their second straight game and moved to third place on the points table.

Sheikh Jamal vs Shinepukur

In another low-scoring affair at the BKSP, Sheikh Jamal won against Shinepukur by 14 runs as they defended 146 runs successfully.

Shinepukur won the toss and decided to field first, and bowled Sheikh Jamal out for a meagre 146. Robiul Islam was the highest scorer with 48 runs, whilst Rahatul Ferdous took four wickets.

Chasing 147, Shinepukur were all-out for 132 runs in 44 overs. Sanzamul Islam took four wickets.
