Legends of Rupganj and Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity won their respective matches in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on Thursday.

Defending champion Abahani lost against Legends of Rupganj by 14 runs at BKSP, Khelaghar defeated Prime Bank Cricket Club by seven wickets.

Legends of Rupganj- Abahani

Led by Mashrafe Bin Mortuza, Legends of Rupganj defeated Abahani, one of the title contenders this season by 14 runs at BKSP on Wednesday.

Mosaddek Hossain, Abahani’s skipper won the toss and decided to bowl first and the sky-blues managed two early wickets.

But Naeem Islam and Chirag Jani recovered the team well with a partnership of 89 runs in the third-wicket partnership.

Naeem played a fine knock of 124 runs from 109 balls where he hit 14 boundaries and four sixes.

Chirag scored 49 runs, Mashrafe was not out on 17.

Legends scored 297-6 in 50 overs, Mosaddek took two wickets.

In reply, Abahani had a moderate start but could not capitalize on the momentum.

Munim Shahriar was out for 26 runs, Mohammad Naim got 35.

India’s Test team regular Hanuma Bihari who just joined Abahani after playing the two-match series against Sri Lanka also disappointed as he was out for only 18 runs.

Mosaddek (66) and Towhid Hridoy (74) added 118 runs in the fourth wicket partnership but both of them were removed by Mashrafe.

After losing two set batsmen in three overs, Abahani struggled to reach the target as the asking rate was getting higher.

Saifuddin scored 43* from 29 balls but he did not get any support from the other end as Abahani ended up scoring 283-8 in 50 overs, falling just 14 runs short of victory.

In three matches, Abahani lost two and both are against two teams bearing the name Rupganj; Legends of Rupganj and Rupganj Tigers.

Naeem Islam was judged Man of the Match.

Khelaghar-Prime Bank

Half-centuries from Pinak Ghosh, Amite Hasan, and Salman Hossain Emon helped Khelaghar to register their first win of the season as they defeated Prime Bank by seven wickets.

Khelaghar won the toss and decided to field first at BKSP ground four. Prime Bank had a gentle start as Anamul Haque (33) and Shahadat Hossain had a half-century partnership but later, they lost a few quick wickets which obstacle their progress.

Abhimanyu Easwaran was the top-scorer with 48 runs, Nasir Hossain scored 40 runs and Shamsur Rahman was out for 29 runs as Prime Bank were all-out for 249 runs in 49.4 overs.

Masum Khan, Tipu Sultan, Mehedi Hasan, and Nihaduzzaman all took two wickets each.

Pinak’s innings of 68 runs supported by Amite’s 85 and Salman’s 53* took Khelaghar to 253-3 in 47.4 overs.
