Bangladesh speedster Taskin Ahmed is set to miss the home series against Sri Lanka in May due to injury, Chairman of Cricket Operations Committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Jalal Yunus, confirmed on Sunday.
Taskin, who suffered a shoulder injury in the second Test in South Africa earlier in the month, is under observation and would be sent to England for advanced treatment if the general treatment takes an extended period of time.
Yunus further revealed that left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam is also doubtful for the Sri Lanka series due to injury.
Shoriful, who was set to play in the Test series in South Africa, was ruled out in the eleventh hour of the first Test due to a niggle and was sent back to Bangladesh along with Taskin as means to manage workload.
“Taskin is not available for the Sri Lanka series and Shoriful is doubful. Taskin is under conventional treatment for now. We are in contacts with doctors in England and if his treatment takes longer than expected then we will send him to England as early as possible,” Yunus said.
Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in May. The first Test will start from May 15 and end on May 19 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, while the second Test will be played from May 23 to May 27 at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
