Bangladesh national team off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a doubt for their first Test against Sri Lanka in May as he has a fracture in his bowling hand.
Miraz, while playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the super league of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League in BKSP on Sunday, injured his fifth finger trying to take a catch of Prime Bank Cricket Club batsman Tamim Iqbal.
The off-spinner was taken to a hospital in Savar, where scans were conducted. Bangladesh Cricket Board physician Debashish Chowdhury informed The Business Post that Miraz had an avulsion fracture in his right hand.
“Miraz dislocated his fifth finger and there is also an avulsion fracture there. The recovery period is unknown. We have given two weeks rest,” Debashish said on Monday.
He added that whether Miraz will be able to play against Sri Lanka will be decided after two weeks.
“We can’t say that now (whether he will play the first Test). Let’s see what happens after two weeks, and how he feels then. Then we can conduct another scan and decide,” Debashish added.
The first Test against Sri Lanka starts on May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, which is around three weeks away.
