Bashundhara Kings, the solitary representative of Bangladesh in the AFC Cup were stormed by ATK Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday as they lost 4-0 to the historic club from Kolkata.

Liston Colaco made a hat-trick and David Williams added another one to make the scoreline 4-0 against the champions from Bangladesh who won their first match against Maldives Maziya on Wednesday.

ATK Mohun Bagan thrashed another club from Dhaka, Abahani limited in the play-off stage by 3-1 to secure a spot in the main draw, and on Saturday they also stormed the Kings.

After the kick-off, at the 11th minute of the match, a powerful storm hit the city and heavy rain accompanied by strong wind stopped the match for almost half an hour. The play resumes later on but the wet field acted as a big obstacle for Bashundhara Kings and Mohun Bagan took the full advantage.

Though there were a series of defensive mistakes by the Kings players, especially Bishwanath Ghosh who allowed the ball to Colaco by failing to clear in front of the goalpost, and as a consequence Kings conceded the first goal.

Colaco’s second goal was a brilliant finish after he dodged the goalkeeper and sent the ball to the back of the net. The third one was also a result of a defensive error. Khaled Shafie tried to save the corner against Kings, he managed to save but gave away the ball to Manvir Singh who momentarily cut back the ball to Colaco who was in a position to fire.

And the Goan winger took no time to score his third goal and complete a hattrick.

The fourth goal was also a defensive error where four of the defenders from Bashundhara could not protect the pass from Shuvashish and Williams slotted the ball with utmost ease.

After losing to Gokulam Kerala in the first match, ATK Mohun Bagan bounced back strongly while Bashundhara Kings could not secure a single point from their second match, rather a heavy defeat caused a big deficit in the goal difference.
