No replacement for Nayeem

Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan picked up a finger injury during the fifth day of the Chattogram Test and he was officially ruled out from Dhaka Test on Friday night but none has been called up as his replacement.

In a media release, the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday informed that, 'A finger injury has ruled Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan out of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Dhaka which starts at the SBNCS, Mirpur on 23 May', said the statement from BCB.

National Team physio Bayzidul Islam said in the media release, 'Nayeem had a contusion of the right middle finger while batting and fielding in the first Test. An X-Ray after the match confirmed an oblique fracture on the tip of the middle finger. He will miss the second Test. We will take a specialist opinion before planning his rehab and recovery.'

The national selectors announced the team for Dhaka Test on Thursday including Nayeem in the squad but they are not likely to call up anyone as a replacement as Mosaddek Hossain is already in the fold.

“There will be no change for the Dhaka Test, we have Mossadek here. You have received the squad list for the second Test and there hasn’t been any change in it. We are not including another spinner,” Chairman of Cricket Operations, Jalal Yunus said.

Both the teams have canceled their training sessions at the SBNCS on Saturday but Shakib Al Hasan was exceptional, he came to SBNCS and went for training inside he trained there for hours in the afternoon. The all-rounder just recovered from Covid-19 and trained only half an hour before the start of the Chattogram Test, though he was successful with the ball his batting looked rusty.
