Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis, who was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka on Monday morning, was released in the evening.
Kusal felt some discomfort in his chest in the morning session of the first day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
He laid down on the ground in pain and was taken off the field just before lunch by the Sri Lankan medical team.
An ECG was carried out after he reached the hospital and the doctors performed a series of other tests. The ECG came out clear and doctors inferred the discomfort to be muscle spasms likely caused by dehydration.
BCB physician Manjur Hossain Chowdhury confirmed to the Business Post that Kusal had been released from the hospital and he went back to the team hotel.
Sri Lanka head coach, Chris Silverwood, said that the health of his player was vital and did not make any comments about whether Kusal would take the field on Tuesday.
“Kusal is currently having some checks done on him. To make sure he is okay. We will get a report from the doctor. Our first and most important thing is the welfare of the player. Hopefully, he will be okay and back with us in the hotel tonight,” he said.
