Bangladesh women’s national team will face Australia, the current 50-over World Champions, at home as part of their ICC Women’s Championship campaign, the International Cricket Council revealed on Wednesday.
A total of 10 teams will participate in the upcoming cycle from 2022 to 2025, with Bangladesh and Ireland being the newcomers.
As part of the cycle, Bangladesh will play four series at home and four away. The only team they will not be playing in this cycle are England. Bangladesh will face India, Pakistan, and Ireland alongside Australia at home and tour New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.
Chairman of the women’s wing of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, believes playing Australia at home is a big matter for women’s cricket in Bangladesh.
“It (home series against Australia) is very important and also a matter of huge respect for us. This, along with the performances in the last Women’s World Cup, is proof that the women’s cricket in Bangladesh has reached a good place. ICC is happy with what we have done,” Shafiul told The Business Post.
