Bangladesh national Test team skipper, Mominul Haque, who has been going through a rough patch with the bat, would not be under so much pressure with his captaincy if he was scoring regularly, believes Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, a veteran cricket coach and the current cricket advisor of BKSP.

In his last 15 innings, Mominul has just gone past 50 once and has been dismissed for single-digit scores in his last eight innings.

Fahim, who was Mominul’s coach during his time at BKSP, said that Mominul’s captaincy is being questioned because of his poor run of form.

“If he had been scoring runs, there wouldn’t have been this much talk about his captaincy. As he is not, there will be talks about the pressure of captaincy. That is why he has to answer these. There will be some pressure,” Fahim said.

Mominul has gone back to the basics to find his touch with the bat as he is now working with Fahim.

“Mominul has been going through a bad patch for quite some time now. During such times, many tend to make it worse and go away from the basics. So, we are working on the basics. What I feel is, that he had good basics, but that is not there now. We are working on that. It looks better. It will be much better after working for a couple of days more.

“It’s difficult to bat at this level when you don’t have your basics right. This is the reason. He will do well if this passes quickly. I think he will do well in the future,” the veteran coach said.

Mominul’s next assignment with the national team is coming up next month in West Indies, where Bangladesh will play a two-match Test series, and the Bangladesh skipper will surely look to change the course of his form.
