Despite economic turmoil in the country, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has assured their willingness to host the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 but has proposed new dates for the tournament.
The six-team tournament was scheduled to start on August 27, but it has been learned that SLC urged the Asian Cricket Council to start the tournament on August 24.
The ACC considered moving the tournament away from Sri Lanka due to the rising turbulence, and the President of the ACC, Jay Shah, said that they will be monitoring the situation closely and come to an assessment after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League. IPL curtains closed on Sunday, with debutants Gujarat Titans being crowned champions.
Reports suggest that the adjustments in dates have been made upon requests from two participating teams in particular. The previous dates might’ve clashed with Pakistan’s home series against England in late September.
If the tournament starts on August 24, it will give Pakistan well enough time to go back home for the seven-match Twenty20 series.
