Stokes era begins as NZ crumble for 132

England started their story under the leadership of Ben Stokes with an incredible display as they shattered World Test Champions New Zealand on the opening day of the first Test at Lord’s.

New Zealand, who lost six wickets in the first session, could only manage 132 as Stokes picked up their last wicket.

It will only hurt New Zealand more as it is their former skipper Brendan McCullum who is the head coach of England, who brought back James Anderson and Stuart Broad into the XI for this Test.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first, but Anderson struck early twice to send back both Blackcaps openers, Will Young and Tom Latham.

Broad joined in to dismiss Devon Conway, and then debutant Matthew Potts picked the big wicket of Kane Williamson, before rattling the stumps of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell.

Anderson then came back to send back Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee as the visitors were reduced to 86-8.

England saw their spinner Jack Leach ruled out due to concussion, and leg-spinner Matt Parkinson came in as the substitute.
