Bangladesh national cricket team all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was awarded the Kool-BSPA Player of the Year at a city hotel in Dhaka on Friday.
The all-rounder emerged as the winner amongst two other nominees- Footballer Topu Barman and archer Diya Siddique.
Mehidy expressed his gratitude to the Bangladesh Sports Press Association and was elated at winning the award for the first time.
“I want to thank the BSPA for giving out this award to the sportsmen every year. Since I’ve won it this year, it’s a very good occasion for me,” he said at the event.
“Seniors have won this award before and now I’ve won. I hope the BSPA will organise many more events such as these in the future so that cricketers or other sportsmen can have a chance to win this award,” he added.
Cricketer Sharmin Akter Supta won the Women’s Cricketer of the Year award. She deemed this success as the most exciting news in Bangladesh Cricket.
“There isn’t more exciting news in Bangladesh Cricket as this,” she said.
The Bangladesh under-19 World Cup-winning squad were also felicitated.
