Mushfiq nominated for May's ICC Player of the Month

Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim was nominated for the International Cricket Council Player of the Month award for the month of May, the ICC announced on Monday.

The middle-order batsman was amongst two other players- Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Matthews and fast-bowler Asitha Fernando- to be nominated, both from the recently concluded Bangladesh-Sri Lanka series.

Mushfiq amassed 303 runs at an average of 151.5 in the two-match series in May, including back-to-back centuries. He scored his eighth Test ton in the first match, where his unbeaten 105 brought his form back.

In the second Test, he scored 175 not out in the first innings to mark a remarkable turnaround as the Tigers were faltering at 24-4 when he came to the crease.

His exploits with the bat saw a surge in the Test rankings as he went up to 18th with 675 points.
