Shoriful, Nayeem to join Bangladesh Tigers Camp

Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam and off-spinner Nayeem Hasan will join the skill camp of the Bangladesh Tigers program from Sunday to carry out their rehabilitation process, said a Bangladesh Cricket Board official.

Both the cricketers were injured during the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka in Chattogram.

Shoriful picked up the injury while batting, he was struck on his hand by a short-delivery from Kasun Rajitha while Nayeem could not hold on to the return catch offered by Dimuth Karunaratne.

Bangladesh Cricket Board physician Debashish Chowdhury told The Business Post that both the bowlers are ready to start their bowling,

“On 9th (June) Plasters were removed from both of their hands. As Shoriful’s injury was on his non-bowling arm, he can start bowling. He needs to find his rhythm and fitness in order to be fully eligible for international cricket”.

“For Nayeem, the fracture was on his bowling hand, now he needs to start bowling in low intensity. Gradually he will bowl with full intensity and gain fitness for international cricket”, added the BCB Physician.

Shoriful has been named in the ODI squad for the West Indies tour, which will start from July 10.

Nayeem returned to the national side almost after one and half years in the Chattogram Test against Sri Lanka. He was called a replacement for Mahidy Hasan Miraz, who got injured while playing a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match.

Nayeem picked up six wickets in the first innings but later he picked up an injury and missed the second Test in Dhaka also, he was not considered for the West Indies tour.

Shoriful, after having a successful run in the One Day International series against South Africa, returned home after the Durban Test due to an injury in his left ankle ligament. The left-arm pacer recovered and played in the Chattogram Test where he was injured again, this time while batting.

Both Shoriful and Nayeem will join the skill-training camp of the Bangladesh Tigers program, starting from today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The Bangladesh Tigers is a newly launched program by the BCB where the board facilitates national team discards mostly.
