Yasir ruled out of WI Tests

Bangladesh batsman Yasir Ali Chowdhury has been ruled out of their two-match Test series against West Indies with a back injury.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board informed on Tuesday that Yasir suffered a back injury on the first day of the Tigers’ practice match against CWI President’s XI. A subsequent MRI scan revealed Discogenic Back Pain on the Lumbar Spine.

Such injuries take two to three weeks to heal, national team physio Bayjedul Islam informed.

“Recovery from such injuries takes about two to three weeks. Therefore, he will not be available for the Test Series,” he said.

Bangladesh have not called up anyone to replace the right-handed batsman.

The first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies in Antigua will start on June 16, followed by the second Test at St Lucia on June 24.

Yasir was set to replace Mushfiqur Rahim in the Tigers XI after the veteran batsman skipped this tour to perform Hajj. Mosaddek Hossain or Nurul Hasan Sohan is likely to play instead of Yasir in the two Tests.

The 26-year-old batsman is supposed to be fit before the One-Day International series, which will start on July 10.
