Massive floods have ravaged the picturesque Sylhet division specifically in Haor-centric Sunamganj and surrounding districts.
In these times of crisis, Bangladesh players have called for solidarity and urged everyone to stand beside the flood victims.
With incessant rain, and rising water levels, the people are suffering from power outages and lack of shelter from the horrors of the flood.
Bangladesh Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan urged to stand beside the victims by helping them.
“Bangladesh is now beside the flood-hit Sylhet. Let’s all pray for Sylhet in this critical situation and help with what we can,” the all-rounder posted on Facebook.
ODI captain, Tamim Iqbal called for patience, and urged everyone to stay strong in such horrific times.
“Sylhet-Sunamganj, the place of amazing beauty, is devastated by a terrible flood today. It’s very saddening to see different pictures of people who are suffering from the flood. Everyone be patient, be mentally strong. Please support the victims as much as possible, and help each other. Praying this danger goes away quickly. May Allah help everyone,” he said.
Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah Riyad wrote on Facebook, “O Allah, please protect all the flood-affected people, have mercy.”
Mushfiqur Rahim asked for everyone’s prayers on Facebook.
“Praying for Sylhet and other parts of our country affected by flooding. May Almighty Allah forgive us all and save us from this situation. Let us all seek forgiveness and pray for our loved ones,” he wrote.
Bangladesh football team skipper Jamal Bhuyan expressed his concerns about the flooding.
“Sylhet has been always one of the most peaceful destinations for me. I am very much concerned with the latest unforeseeable Images of the beautiful City. My prayers are with the people of Sylhet,” he posted on Facebook.
With the situation in Sylhet worsening, Bangladesh Football Federation has shifted both men’s and women’s matches away from
the district.
Bangladesh women’s football team was set to play against Malaysia on June 23 and 26 at the Sylhet District Stadium, but was moved to Dhaka on Friday. Bangladesh Premier League football matches have also been moved away from Sylhet. The 16th and 17th round matches were shifted due to the field at the Sylhet District Stadium being unfit
for play.
BCB High-Performance side were in a skill camp in Sylhet, which was supposed to run until July 6. But due to the flood situation, they are being brought back to Dhaka. HP team manager Jamal Babu confirmed to The Business Post that the players left for Dhaka via bus on Saturday evening.
