The Bangladesh Premier League football will resume its matches after the International break, with the 16th round of the league set to kick off on Tuesday.
Players will be returning to their respective clubs as they get ready to revive the grind again in the league.
Defending champions Bashundhara Kings, who are table toppers, are gunning for a third straight title in four years.
Kings sit top with 38 points in 15 matches, while Dhaka Abahani are hot on their trail as they are six points adrift of the defending champions.
Kings head coach Oscar Bruzon will be eyeing to write off an unsuccessful AFC Cup campaign as he looks to lift his third BPL trophy.
Despite bagging all three points against Maziya S&R and Gokulam Kerala FC, Bruzon’s men failed to show up against ATK Mohun Bagan as they were thrashed 4-0, ending their AFC Cup campaign.
Kings have managed to win 12 out of their 15 matches so far and have drawn two. They were handed their only defeat against relegation favourites Swadhinata KS, who are languishing at the bottom of the table with 6 points.
Abahani Ltd, the most successful side in the BPL, is in second place with 32 points as they look to spoil Kings’ party and swoop in to clinch their seventh title.
The sky blues have also qualified for the play-off round of the next season’s AFC Cup.
Sheikh Jamal is in third with 30 points, while Saif Sporting Club sits fourth with 27.
Despite having the highest goal-scorer in the league, Chattogram Abahani is in fifth place with 26 points. Nigerian striker Peter Ebimobowei has found the net 16 times and 15 matches for Chattogram Abahani.
Kings talisman Robson Robinho is in second with 11 goals and he shares the second place with Mohammedan Sporting Club’s number nine Souleymane Diabate.
Besides scoring the most goals for his team, Robinho has also delivered as a playmaker, providing five assists in the league so far.
Bangladesh Football Federation on Saturday decided to move scheduled matches away from the Sylhet District Stadium due to the field being unfit for play. Massive floods have ravaged Sylhet and surrounding districts in the last few days.
Kings will take on relegation battlers Rahmatganj MFS in the 16th round on Tuesday at the Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, while Abahani Ltd is set to take on archrivals Mohammedan on the following day at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Comilla.
