Shakib climbs to no.2 in Test all-rounder rankings

Bangladesh Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan climbed to the second spot in the ICC Test all-rounder rankings after his brilliant showing in their first Test against West Indies in Antigua.

Shakib hit fifties in both innings of the Test. His 51 runs in the first innings took Bangladesh to three figures and saved them from humiliation, while his 63 runs in the second innings, helped Bangladesh set a target for West Indies in the fourth innings.

His bowling was not extraordinary, but he kept it tight as he gave away just 51 runs in the 23 overs he bowled in the Test, picking up one wicket.

This performance saw Shakib gain 19 rating points to have a total tally of 346, meaning he leapfrogged India’s Ravichandran Ashwin (3) and Jason Holder (4) in the rankings to reach second.

Shakib currently only has India’s Ravindra Jadeja ahead, who has 385 rating points.

With his twin fifties, Shakib also had a massive jump in the batting rankings as he moved up 14 steps to 32nd.

Among Bangladesh batsmen, Liton Das maintained his position at 12th, the highest-ever spot in the Test rankings for Bangladesh.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who opted out of the West Indies series to perform Hajj, dropped down one step to 17th. Former Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque, after yet another disappointing Test, dropped down seven steps to 73rd. Tamim Iqbal dropped down two steps to 36th, while his opening partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy stayed at 93rd.

In the bowling rankings, West Indies’ Kemar Roach, who picked up a fifer in the second innings of the Antigua Test, moved up four steps to eighth.

Among the Bangladesh bowlers, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, courtesy of his four wickets in the first innings of the Antigua Test, climbed up six steps to 30th.
