Domingo disappointed with erratic Bangladesh

Bangladesh national team head coach expressively articulated his disappointment after the second day of Bangladesh’s second Test against West Indies in St Lucia, which saw the Caribbeans take a lead of three figures.

West Indies had started the day on 67-0, and a good first session on day two meant they were 137-4 at lunch. Bangladesh still had a lead of 97 at that point and looked like they could hold onto a part of that with the same discipline in the following sessions.

But what followed was a disappointing bowling effort from the Tigers, managing only one wicket in the remainder of the day as West Indies ended the day on 340-5, taking a 106-run lead, with Kyle Mayers hitting his second century against Bangladesh.

After a day which saw Bangladesh pegged back in the Test by some margin, Domingo was expectedly frustrated. He has often been the voice of optimism in the team, but that seemingly is gone.

“It is the story of our Test match cricket at the moment. We are good for one session, and then we have one really bad session. Guys were not patient. They couldn’t string together enough tight overs like we did in the first session.

“They were searching for wickets, bowled a few soft balls, came around the wicket when it should be over the wicket. They just made basic errors by not being patient enough. It was very disappointing the way we bowled after lunch,” the Bangladesh head coach said.

The South African pointed out that just bowling was not the problem.

“There are some serious questions with bat and ball at the moment. It was not a 230 all-out wicket. If it weren’t for a 30-run partnership in the end, we would be 190 all out.

“We are just not good enough at putting performances together with the bat. West Indies are showing us why they are better than us. They have managed to build partnerships and withstand the pressure. They just bat long - that’s the bottom line,” he said.
