Bangladesh quickest to 100 Test defeats

Bangladesh national cricket team, in their 10-wicket defeat to West Indies in the second Test of their two-match Test series, reached an unwanted milestone as they received 100 Test defeats in record time.

Bangladesh succumbed to their 100th defeat in just their 134th Test, a feat no team has ever been even close to. Among these 100 defeats, 45 have been innings defeats.

The Tigers have lost the most number of matches against Sri Lanka, losing 18 out of 24. They have lost 14 to West Indies, 13 to New Zealand, and 12 each against Pakistan and South Africa.

Till June 26, the achievement of the fastest to 100 Test defeats belonged to New Zealand, who had taken 241 Tests to do it. Among Asian nations, Sri Lanka have now lost their top spot as they had taken 266 Tests to reach 100 defeats in the longer version.

Among others, South Africa, India, England, and Pakistan needed 279, 303, 341, and 357 Tests respectively, to achieve 100 losses in red-ball cricket. West Indies, against whom Bangladesh reached their record, took 368 Tests to have 100 defeats by their name, while Australia took the longest to do so, 374 matches.

Zimbabwe are yet to reach 100 Test defeats as they have lost 74 out of their 115 played. Even if they lose their next 26 matches, they will not be able to break Bangladesh’s record.

Bangladesh have the highest loss percentage in Test history as they have lost 74.62% of their matches.

Bangladesh also have the least number of wins while reaching 100 Test defeats. The Tigers have only won 16 matches and drawn 18.

New Zealand is second in this metric too, as they had 33 wins in the bag before reaching three figures in losses. Bangladesh have neighbours India at third as they won 57 Tests before losing 100. Australia had the most Test wins, 170, when they reached 100 defeats.
