Mrittunjoy picks three for BCB HP

Bangladesh Cricket Board High-Performance team finished the third day of their four-day match against Bangladesh Tigers on 123-4, leading by 32 runs.

Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Aich Mollah remained not out on 30 and eight runs respectively, while HP’s left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam scalped three wickets to end the day.

Bangladesh Tigers’ managed 318 in their first innings to take a lead of 91 runs.

Tigers’ right-handed batsman Naeem Islam couldn’t continue to bat and was retired hurt as he went off on 21 runs. He was struck on his right eye after an outside edge slipped through his hands at second slip earlier on day two.

Left-handed batsman Fazle Mahmud, who came in at five, top-scored with 89 runs, hitting eleven fours in the process. The other fifty came from opener Soumya Sarker, who scored 81.

Bangladesh Tigers’ left-arm pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury was the pick of the bowlers, returning with figures of three for 48, while Mukidul Islam and Ripon Mondol took two wickets each.

In reply, HP openers Mahfijul Islam (27) and Tanzid Hasan (33) strung up a 53-run stand before the former got dismissed by fast-bowler Abu Hider Rony.

Amite Hasan came in at three but his stay at the crease was short-lived as Tanvir trapped him lbw for four runs.

Tanvir inflicted further damage as he picked up two more. He got Mahfijul stumped and castled Towhid Hridoy for six runs, ending the third day with figures of three wickets for 19 runs.
