Bangladesh A back in action with WI tour

Bangladesh A team will be back in action after three years with their tour of West Indies, where they will play two unofficial Test matches along with three One-Day matches.

Bangladesh A team last played a series in 2019 when they toured Sri Lanka for three unofficial Test matches and three One-Day matches.

In West Indies, Bangladesh A will play two four-day Tests, the first starting on August 4 and the second on August 10. The One-Day matches are on August 16, 18, and 20.

All the matches will be at the Darren Sammy International Stadium in St Lucia.

BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said that the series will provide an excellent opportunity for players of both teams to prepare for international commitments.

“The international schedule is getting busier by the season and therefore it is very important for the cricketers to keep themselves ready through good competitive cricket. We thank CWI for accommodating the A tour. The four-day ‘Tests’ and the One-Day matches will be an invaluable experience for the players.

“The BCB and CWI share a warm longstanding relationship and have worked tirelessly to make this tour happen. I hope we will see more reciprocal programmes between the two boards in the future,” he said.

Former Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque, who had been struggling for form before being dropped in the national team’s second Test against West Indies last month, is expected to be in the squad for the A team’s West Indies tour.

“There are thoughts about sending Mominul (to West Indies with the A team). But it’s difficult for me to say. I have not talked with the selectors, team management or coaching staff. But I feel it would be a great opportunity for him,” BCB President Nazmul Hassan had said to the media.

Alongside Mominul, members of the Bangladesh Tigers and BCB High-Performance team are expected to be included in the side.
