Nasum stars with new celebration

Nasum Ahmed was the star of the show for Bangladesh on Wednesday as he picked up three wickets to guide the Tigers to yet another series victory over West Indies.

After the first ODI where he stayed wicketless despite being economical by giving away only 16 runs in eight overs, Nasum finally found his first scalps in the 50-over format.

Nasum bowled 10 overs where he gave away just 19 runs and earned four maidens to choke the Caribbeans, who folded for a meagre 108, which Bangladesh overtook with nine wickets and 29.2 overs in hand.

Those credentials earned him the player of the match award, his first in One-Day Internationals.

Nasum hit a new celebration in the second ODI after picking up his first wicket in the format by rattling the stumps of Shamarh Brooks.

The celebration seemingly stemmed from the first match, where Nasum remained wicketless. He seemingly had his first wicket when Brooks was given LBW, but when the batsman reviewed, a controversial call by the third umpire saw the decision overturned, and Brooks survived.

So, in the second match, after getting through Brooks with an arm ball, Nasum showed the review sign with his hands, signalling that call from the first match.

Nasum’s other two dismissals were Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran, in consecutive deliveries. First, Hope tried to slog sweep Nasum, but the top edge only found Mosaddek Hossain’s safe hands, before Pooran tried to reverse sweep the left-arm spinner and saw the ball ricochet off his gloves onto the stumps.

After the match, Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal full of praise the left-arm spinner from Sylhet.

“He’s (Nasum) brilliant. When Shakib is here, he doesn’t get a game. I think he bowled unbelievably, used the conditions very well,” the Bangladesh skipper said.

After his first two ODIs turned out to be good ones, Nasum will be hoping to extend it to the third game, and help Bangladesh achieve a clean sweep.
