9th BPL to start from January 5

The ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 will start on January 5, 2023, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan.

Nazmul said in a press conference after the fifth meeting of the board of directors at the BCB office at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Nazmul said that from now on, the BCB will give the ownership rights to the franchises for three years, and for that, the board has chalked out the schedule for the next three seasons,

“ We have decided that we will give the ownership rights to the franchise owners for the next three years. Therefore we have chalked out the schedule for the next three seasons. The ninth edition of the BPL will start on January 5, 2023, and end on February 16, 2023. The 10th edition will start on January 6, 2024, and end on February 17, 2024. The third edition will start on January 1, 2025, and end up on 11 February 2025”, said Nazmul at the press conference.

“ At present, we are planning to have a seven-team tournament”, added the BCB president.

Right now, BCB does not have any ties with franchises as in the past edition the contract was for only one edition. Now as the board is awarding the right for three years, BCB is expecting some  of the former franchises who did not take part in the last BPL will come,

“ Some former franchises might come. We have fixed the dates now and soon we will fix the terms and conditions. Soon we will advertise for the expression of interest. We will finalize everything in three-four days and then we will publish the advertisement”, he told the media.

“Basundhara (Rangpur Riders), Beximco (Dhaka Dynamites) and Gemcon (Khulna Titans) did not take part in the previous edition, hopefully they will come”, expects Nazmul.
