The Bangladesh under-20 national football team will leave Dhaka for India today to take part in the upcoming SAFF U-20 Championship in Bhubaneswar, India.
The SAFF U-20 Championship will kick off on July 25. In the opening match, Maldives will face Nepal, while Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the second match of the day.
Bangladesh will lock horns with hosts India in their second game on July 27, and in the final group match, Bangladesh will face Nepal on August 2. All the matches will take place at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.
Five teams are taking part in this tournament as Pakistan and Bhutan opted out from this edition.
Centre-back Tanvir Hossain will lead the Bangladesh team in this championship. Moinul Islam Moin is the vice-captain.
Moin is a promising attacking midfielder, who scored 18 goals for Uttara FC in the Bangladesh Championship League.
Moin previously played for the Bangladesh U-15 and U-16 teams.
Bangladesh Football Federation’s technical director Paul Thomas Smally will be the head coach of the U-20 team. He will have former national team goalkeeper Biplob Bhattacharjee as the goalkeeping coach and the national team’s fitness coach Ivan Razlog with him.
