Bangladesh Under-20 national football team will be hoping to solidify a spot in the top two of the ongoing U20 SAFF Championship 2022 by beating Maldives at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India today.

The boys in red and green are in red hot form as they got off to a terrific start by beating Sri Lanka 1-0 in the opener and managed to bag all three points against defending champions India in their second match on Wednesday.

A win against the Maldives will put Bangladesh in pole position to guarantee a spot in the final and their skipper Tanvir Hasan said the match is of utmost importance in their goal to reach the grand finale on August 5.

“We wanted to take it match by match. We managed to start the tournament exactly how we hoped to. Our main target is to go to the final. Tomorrow’s match against the Maldives is very important. If we can win that one, we can confirm our spot in the final,” he said on Thursday.

Opponents Maldives, on the other hand, are fresh from a 4-0 thrashing against Nepal and will be looking to put their first points on the board.

Bangladesh players participated in a team meeting on Thursday morning before taking part in a training session in the afternoon at Capital Practice Ground.

Nepal, who top the table via goal difference, have put seven goals past their oppositions in two games, with four in the first against Nepal, and a 3-0 sweep against Sri Lanka.
