Bangladesh Women’s national football team were drawn in Group A of the upcoming Women’s SAFF Championship 2022 starting in September following the draw for the sixth edition of the tournament on Saturday.
Five-time champions India were also drawn in the same group along with Maldives and Pakistan, while Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan were drawn in Group B.
The sixth edition of the tournament, which started in 2010, will see the participation of seven teams in total.
Since the inception of the most elite tournament for Women’s football in South Asia in 2010, India have won all five editions.
Nepal have come in as runners-up on four occasions, while Bangladesh have come second on one occasion.
Bangladesh’s best finish came in 2016 edition in Siliguri, India when they were beaten 3-1 by the hosts in the final. Bangladesh held off India to a goalless draw in their group-stage meeting but were defeated in the final following a hard-fought contest.
In the last edition in 2019 in Nepal, Bangladesh were crashed out of the semi-finals after being thrashed 4-0 by India.
