Nurul Hasan Sohan tried his best to mark his first appearance as Bangladesh captain with a win but his teammates failed to comply with his conviction.

Bangladesh lost to Zimbabwe by 17 runs in the first match of the three Twenty20 International series at Harare Sports Club ground on Saturday.

Tigers poor show continued in the T20 format where they are putting forward a lot of excuses regarding physical abilities but on Saturday almost everything proved wrong.

In the recently concluded T20 series against West Indies where Bangladesh lost 2-0 (one match got rain-washed), the Caribbeans made 193-5 in the second T20 where Rovman Powel and Brandon King made half-centuries.

Batting coach Jaime Siddons, all-rounder Shak Mahedi Hasan and many told on various occasions that Bangladesh cricketers lack the power-hitting ability, but on Saturday Zimbabwe posted 205-3 without being brutal like the Caribbeans.

Sikandar Raza, a regular face in the domestic cricket of Bangladesh who is not of a sturdy build, hit four sixes and seven fours to play a crucial knock of 65* runs from just 26 balls which took the game away from the Tigers.

Bangladesh lost Munim Shahriar quickly on the chase, the BPL wonder is fading in the international arena as he failed to reach double-digit in three out of four innings he played for Bangladesh.

Anamul Haque returned to T20 after being dropped from the One Day team in West Indies and possibly proved why he was overlooked for a long time.

In his last international T20 before being recalled after having a remarkable season in Dhaka Premier League, Anamul played a selfish inning of 47 runs in 51 balls which slowed down the team’s run rate.

Chasing 206, he did the same again by playing a knock of 26 runs in 27 balls. Mosaddek Hossain did the damage at the deep, his 13 from 10 balls with just one boundary, and denying Nurul Hasan Sohan a strike in the crucial time also cost Bangladesh.

Sohan asked for the impact of performance from his teammates in his first press conference as a skipper, unfortunately, he was the only one on the Bangladesh team who made so. 42* from 26 balls with four sixes, Sohan kept Bangladesh in the game during the chase.

Bowling was lacklustre, Mustafizur Rahman made a half-century with the ball as he conceded 50 runs in his four overs. Taskin Ahmed gave away 42 runs without taking any wickets.
