BCB not worried about more T20 Leagues

Bangladesh Cricket Board is not fearing the introduction of new franchise-based cricket leagues around the globe and overlapping fixtures with the Bangladesh Premier League.

Chief Executive Officer of the BCB, Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the reporters on Monday that conflicting fixtures will make everyone suffer,

“We have to keep one thing in mind that every member country is looking for a window to start their own franchise-based league. So, if the schedules clash, everybody will suffer. Because our two or three important players who might play in other leagues can not play as they will be playing in our own league”, he said at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Cricket South Africa is going to launch their T20 league in January where Indian Premier League clubs have bought franchises.

At the same time, the International T20 League will take place in the UAE where each of the six teams can field nine overseas players in their playing XI. IPL franchises also bought teams in the International T20 League as well.

Australia’s stalwart David Warner is reportedly to play in the UAE T20 League skipping the Big Bash League, hosted by Cricket Australia.

Nizamuddin thinks that none from Bangladesh will skip BPL for other leagues,

“Every member country has an understanding regarding the No Objection Certificate. Every country follows that rule. Personally, I think nobody will leave the competition at home and go abroad”, said the BCB CEO.

BCB has already announced dates for the upcoming three editions of BPL and Nizamuddin said that soon the process of allotting new franchises will begin,

“Soon we will publish the Expression of Interest. We will indicate the ownership guideline and tenure. From the next edition, we will give a franchise for three seasons, so that the tournament could be well organized and competitive. At the same time the franchises will have more time to execute their plans”, he told the reporters.

Nizamuddin attended the ICC meeting at the UK where the future tour programs of the next cycles were finalized. BCB CEO said Bangladesh will play more matches in the coming days,

“We went close to our requirements of more matches or increasing the number of matches. We have shortfalls in one or two areas but we will overcome those”, Nizamuddin told the media.
