Bangladesh A vs WI A ends in stalemate

Bangladesh A team drew the first four-day match against the West Indies A team at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia as the final day of the match was washed out due to rain.

The match had already seen several rain interruptions in the first three days that were played, with only 35 overs bowled on the third day.

West Indies ended the third day at 263-5. Alick Athanaze and Yannic Cariah remained unbeaten on 30 and 18. West Indian skipper Joshua De Silva scored 43 runs, and Tevin Imlach managed 36 runs before being dismissed by Bangladesh fast-bowler Khaled Ahmed, who picked both the wickets that fell on day three, ending with figures of 2-73.

Bangladesh A were in a tight spot with the bat as they could only manage to put on 167 after being put into bat on day one.

Skipper Mohammad Mithun, who scored a fifty in the first innings, revealed that the batsman faced difficulties with the match wicket and that the track was different than what they had practiced on.

“This is a completely new condition for us. We had two-three practice sessions before the match but the match wicket was very different. After the practice sessions, we all thought that we would get a similar type of wicket but it was very different from the practice wickets. It had more pace and bounce, and I think we had problems with adjusting to the match wicket,” he said after the match.

Head coach of Bangladesh A team Mizanur Rahman Babul, on the other hand, said that the players failed to adjust to the conditions and couldn’t respond accordingly, especially with the bat.

“We had good preparations in practice but when it came to the match, we had some lackings in terms of shot selection. We managed to score 167 and they responded with 263. So there was a gap of around 100 runs. The batsmen and the bowlers had shortcomings when it came to adjusting to the conditions,” he said.

The second four-day match will start on Wednesday before the action moves onto the three-match ODI series, starting on August 16.
