Bangladesh Table Tennis team qualified for the Men’s quarter-finals after beating the Maldives in 3-1 sets in the pre-quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Mohutasin Ahmed Ridoy and Ramhimlian Bawm defeated the Maldives in 3-0 sets in the singles, but they were beaten in 3-1 sets in the doubles game.
Mohutasin lost the following match 3-0, bringing the overall score to 2-2, but Rifat Mahmud Sabbir came in clutch and won his match 3-0 to edge the final score to 3-2 as Bangladesh went through.
Despite achieving his personal best in the qualifications, Bangladesh’s fastest man sprinter Imranur Rahman couldn’t place for a medal after finishing sixth in the finals in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old managed to finish the 100m sprint in 10.02s as he stood sixth amongst the eight finalists.
Arthur Gue Cissé of Ivory Coast won gold, finishing the sprint with 9.89s. Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Akbar Mohammad, who clocked in at 9.95s, won silver, while Turkey’s Emre Zafer Barnes and Oman’s Barakat Al-Harthi jointly won the bronze medal.
Imranur qualified for the semi-finals after achieving his personal best of 10.01s in the fourth heat of the 100m sprint and went through to the finals clocking 10.06s. His previous best of 10.22s came in the World Athletics Championships preparations in London.
