Bangladesh A team are in a spot of bother as they managed 157 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of the second day of the final four-day match against West Indies at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia on Friday.

Right-handed batsman Saif Hassan remained unbeaten on 63 off 217 deliveries as he hit six fours and a six in a almost a five-hour stay at the crease, while Jaker Ali was yet to get off the mark having faced 16 balls at the other end.

Openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam failed to make their starts count as they were out for 17 and 25 respectively.

Left-handed batsman Fazle Mahmud and skipper Mohammad Mithun both went back after scoring 14 runs, and Zakir Hasan managed 15 runs before being dismissed.

West Indies A’s left-arm fast-bowler Colin Archibald scalped three wickets, and the other two went to Anderson Phillip and Marquino Mindley.

Bangladesh’s first innings total will now depend on Saif, who said that the batsman had a stern mindset to leave well, but his team would’ve fared better if they had lost fewer wickets.

“We tried to stick to our plans. The batsman tried to leave the balls outside off-stump. We tried to remain focused and hard, but some of the batsmen ended up playing the expansive drive. It would have been better for us if we had lost a couple of wickets less,” he said.

The right-handed batsman also revealed that he had to adjust to the condition as he responded by changing his guard, which allowed him to be more aware of his off-stump.

“I changed my guard a bit. I thought it gave me more control. When I shuffled towards the off-stump, I felt I could then leave the balls going away and defend the ones coming in. It helped to know where my off-stump is,” he said after the end of the day’s play.
