Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Anamul Haque revealed on Friday that the Tigers were surprised to lose the first One-Day International against Zimbabwe, and felt the nerves kick in the second in Harare following their disappointing tour, which saw the Tigers lose a complete white-ball series away from home.
Bangladesh managed a consolation win in the final match of the series to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Anamul, after the national team returned from Zimbabwe on Friday, said that they could not perform according to their expectations.
“We were quite surprised after losing the first match. We couldn’t perform to our expectations in Zimbabwe. It was upsetting. We were a bit nervous when we saw the second match going in their favour. I think that it was a series, where we couldn’t give our 100 per cent,” he said upon his arrival at Dhaka on Friday.
The Tigers were bettered 2-1 in the Twenty20 International series too. But the ODI series defeat was Bangladesh’s first against Zimbabwe after nine long years.
Anamul, however, managed to end the series on a high as he scored two fifties in the ODI series, scoring 73 and 76 in the first and third ODI.
The 29-year-old, who made a comeback to the national side after three years, expressed his excitement upon his return but had regrets about not being able to contribute to his team’s cause.
“I was very excited to come back. I have done a lot of hard work and made a return after three years. I’ve tried to make use of this opportunity. It would have felt much better if I could’ve made contributions that brought our team victories,” he said.
