Archers from Bangladesh finally brought some good news as they secured three medals in the Islamic Solidarity Games taking place in Konya, Turkey.
In the Women’s Team compound bow event, Bangladesh lost to Turkey by 229-222 points in the final and earned a silver medal. Roksana Akter, Shamoly Roy, and Puspita Zaman competed for the Bangladesh team in the Women’s compound bow event.
They faced the Turkish team where Bostan Ucar Yesim, Suzer Ayse Bera, and Yildir Sevim competed.
In the Women’s recurve Team event, Bangladesh secured the bronze medal by defeating Uzbekistan 6-2. Diya Siddique, Beauty Ray, and Nasrin Akter participated in this event. Bangladesh defeated Malaysia 6-0 in the quarterfinals and moved to the semi-finals where they faced Indonesia. After the first phase of the competition, the score-line was 4-4. Then the match moved to a tie-breaker where each of the archers shot one arrow. That too ended up in a tie where both the teams scored 23 points (9+7+7).
Indonesia moved to the finals as one of their arrows was closer to the 10-point spot.
Bangladesh were sent to play in the bronze medal match where they secured victory over Uzbekistan.
Swimmer Mahamudun Nobi Nahid moved to Semi-final in the 50m Butterfly, he clocked 26.22 seconds.
In the men’s recurve Team event, Bangladesh managed to win the bronze medal by defeating Saudi Arabia 6-0. Ruman Shana, Hakim Ahmed Rubel, and Sagor Islam competed for Bangladesh.
On their way to the semi-finals, Bangladesh defeated Sudan and Iran but lost to Indonesia 6-2 in the semi-finals.
Then the archers met KSA in the bronze medal match which they won 6-0.
In karate, Al Amin reached the quarter-finals of the -60 KG weight category of Kumite. He defeated Yemen’s participant in the pre-quarterfinals but lost to an Indonesian martial artist in the QF.
Marzana Akter Priya lost to Indonesian opponent 2-0 in the bronze medal match of Karate -55 KG kumite.
