Nigar takes Barishal to first win

Barisal skipper Nigar Sultana Joty played a captain’s knock as she scored an unbeaten 63 off 53 deliveries to take her team Barishal Division over the line against Chattogram Division in a four-wicket victory at the Sylhet Academy Ground on Friday.

The wicket-keeper batter, who was adjudged the player of the match, hit seven fours and a six to reach her first fifty in the tournament, also giving her team their first victory.

Chattogram managed to score 117-5 after being put into bat, courtesy of Sobhana Mostary’s 43 runs off 31 balls, but Nigar’s Barisal chased it down with only one ball remaining.

In the other match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Khulna Division won by nine runs against Mymensingh Division.

Khulna posted 108-7 after being put into bat. Mymensingh’s Shanjida Akhter Maghla returned with figures of 4-8.

Mymensingh batters failed to chase down the total as they ended on 99-5.

Khulna’s Fahomida was adjudged the player of the match for her figures of 2-13.

Rajshahi Division clinched the second match of the day at the Sylhet Academy Ground as they beat Sylhet Division by two wickets.

Sylhet could only manage 92-6, but Rajshahi made a meal of the low-scoring chase as they lost eight wickets for 90 runs. In the end, they managed to cross the finish line with two balls remaining.

Rajshahi’s opener, Farzana Akter Lisa, who top-scored with 31 runs off 48 deliveries, was adjudged the player of the match.

In another low-scoring affair, Rangpur Division came out victorious against Dhaka Division by eight wickets at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Dhaka could only manage 90 runs after they were sent in to bat. Middle-order batter Ritu Moni top-scored with 38. Sathira Jakir Jesy of Rangpur picked up two wickets as she returned with figures of 2-14.

In reply, Rangpur openers Murshida Khatun and Sathi Rani got their team off to a solid start as they managed to put on a 58-run stand before Rani perished for 27 runs.

But Murshida saw her team through as she remained unbeaten on 41 runs off 59 balls and took home the player of the match award for her steady knock.
